GASTRIC BY-PASS |
| WHAT IS IT FOR AND HOW DOES IT WORK? |
The Gastric Bypass is a mixed surgical procedure, based on gastric restriction. It creates a small superior gastric pouch connected to the small intestines and excludes the rest of the stomach. At the same time, it benefits from bad intestinal absorptions by associating to a food source so that it does not pass through the first intestinal handles therefore preventing the absorption of fats and sugars.
The gastric bypass has certain advantages over conventional surgery. It is carried out via laparoscopy: an optic with a strong light source connected to a camera is placed on the patient's abdomen through a small incision; a series of additional small incisions allows the introduction the apparatus needed under TV monitorsī direct vision. The surgeon controls the situation externally by completing the procedure without touching any organs or opening the abdominal cavity. All this implies a minimally painful post-operation period and a faster recovery.
